So Jay-Z and Kanye came to New York and conquered, draped in couture and rapping about fast cars and omniscience, which by all accounts made for an awesome show. But isn’t it about time someone else took the throne? East coast hip hop has been stagnant for some time, as the gap between those with G’s to burn and the streets that they came from got wider. New talent was beaten up by the recession and diluted by the internet. Now, for the first time in some time, strong voices are emerging. See my pick on Virgin.com.
