Virgin Red Room: Festival de musique émergente

I had the most remarkable time covering FME, or festival de musique émergente, in the flat mining region of Abitibi-Témiscamingue in northwestern Quebec, from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2. It was unlike any festival I’d been to – 10 hours from any big cities and heavy on French speaking (singing) acts. The whole town of Rouyn Noranda came out to celebrate, giving the festival a kind of village fete feel, but with music that punched far above its weight. Coverage on Virgin Red Room included this review, and an earlier preview.
